Amazing Hiking Trails
Take a Hike! From scenic look-outs, you can see the magnificent Kahuna Falls and you can also view the cascading ‘Akaka Falls. These falls go down over 400 feet into a huge gorge. This is about a half-mile hike that requires some physical stamina.
AMAZING GREEN SAND BEACH
The green sand beach is a geologic oddity located in a bay cut by the ocean waves into a side of the volcanic cone that erupted about 50,000 years ago. Silicate deposit of Big Island lava called olivine created the green beach. This silica stays deposited on this beach because it is heavier than the other, lighter components of the lava. It is best to hike along the shore because you can better view this natural wonder, although it possible to drive a four-wheel drive vehicle to the top of the beach. We don’t recommend swimming there as the surf is rough.
